Responding to the request for exercise classes for senior citizens, six members of the Soka Volunteers Group took lessons at the Health Promotion Board to qualify as exercise trainers. With the new skills, these volunteers started an exercise class with 28 senior participants.
From 3 June 2011, participants ranging from age 54 to 81 get to learn basic exercises, breathing techniques and strength training at the weekly session.
After the first of 12 lessons, the oldest participant, Mr Tan Lor Chwee, commented, “It is a very beneficial programme as it entails a full body workout and it is not too vigorous for elderly people like us.” Another participant, Mdm Lim Bee Eng, 64, added, “I learn the correct way of stretching through this programme and it helps to improve my blood circulation!”
With such positive responses from the participants, they will certainly be looking forward to their classes in the coming weeks!
