On January 31, some 110 SSA members and friends from the Men and Young Men Division joined hands for the first time this year to put up an item termed, “Happy Bellies”.
Hailed as “Asia’s Grandest Street and Floats Parade”, the performance stretched for one-and-a-half kilometres route from City Hall to Raffles Avenue, where it was transformed into “Wonderland” of colourful gigantic floats and rowdy performances.
Dressed up in colourful top-hats, trench coats, bow-ties, silvery hair and happy faces drawn on their bellies, the solely-men SSA participants danced to the music by twisting and shaking their “belly faces”, drawing much amusement and delight from the crowd.
Amongst the SSA participants this year, the most senior was a 57-year-old adult, while the youngest was a 15-year-old student. 2009 marks SGS’s 27th year of participation in the international street parade.
