In commemoration of Earth Day on April 22, the international exhibition “Seeds of Change: The Earth Charter and Human Potential” opens at the Pasir Ris Park at the Earth Day events organized by the National Parks Board.
The Guest of Honour for the launch of this exhibition was Professor Leo Tan Wee Hin, Chairman of the Garden City Fund, National Parks Board. SSA Board Member and Vice General Director Mr Oh Kheng Yam delivered the opening speech to some 80 guests including school teachers and students. Other guests present included Director of Parks Division, National Parks Board Mr Kong Yit San, President of the Environmental Challenge Organization (Singapore) Mr Wilson Ang.
This exhibition is organized by SSA, supported by the National Parks Board, and Environmental Challenge Organization (Singapore). It will be on display till April 26, at the Pasir Ris Park D’Space (Carpark E).
President of the Soka Gakkai International, Mr Daisaku Ikeda says, “The Earth Charter is not just about the environment. It is about having broad, encompassing respect for all living beings, and building a culture of peace. The Earth Charter is actually about values, the kind of values we as human beings need to cultivate in order to make our continued existence sustainable. It may be considered a guideline for humanity in the 21st century.”
In addition to the exhibition, there were also other activities organized by the National Parks Board, such as the “Paint A Bin” Competition, “Plant A Tree” Programme, “Protect Our Mangrove” activities, and “Passage to Understanding Nature” – guided walks around the park, on that day to promote the awareness of protection and preservation of the environment.
