Through the various collaborations between the Singapore Management University (SMU) and SSA since 2005, much rapport and trust has been established between the two organizations. As such, the invitation of establishing the SSA-Ikeda Peace Award within the SMU, comes in recognition of SGS’s invaluable contribution to SMU and to society at large.
On March 15, SSA and the SMU signed an agreement to establish the SSA-Ikeda Peace Award from the new academic year starting this August.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by some 1,300 youth members of SSA and members from the Asia’s Soka Gakkai International organizations, who attended the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Meeting of March 16 held at the SSA Headquarters.
This annual award will be given in recognition to a student who has achieved or made significant contributions, beyond academic studies, to the University or the community at large through partnering Volunteer Welfare Organizations approved by Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports.
SMU sees this partnership as a means to develop outstanding young adults, build characters, shape global leaders and visionary youth protagonists for the future. Through this, students will be encouraged to put classroom learning into practice, apply the soft skills necessary to become effective, creative and flexible leaders for the 21st century and most importantly, gain a sense of social responsibility.
