Students from NUS University Scholars Programme visit SSA for Interfaith Learning

Some 20 students from the National University of Singapore (NUS) University Scholars Programme (USP) paid a visit to SSA Headquarters on a study programme for inter-faith learning on May 28. This study programme is the second part of a successful inter-religious experience of NUS USP since 2006. This year, the focus is on inter-religious, inter-faith dialogue and learning. The USP will be bringing the students to be immersed in various academic and cultural activities in an intensive manner, the religions of Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism; and create conditions to expose young minds to a variety of culture and religions.

SSA Vice Chairman Mr Michael Yap, Director of Publications Mr Chan Heng Yuen and Director of Education Ms Tan Gek Noi, together with some SSA tertiary students were present to interact with the students from NUS.

Assoc Professor Syed Farid Alatas, Head of the Muslim Studies of NUS, who led the students, was impressed with the engaging session where the students were brought to learn about Nichiren Buddhism and the values and principles of the Soka Gakkai’s endeavours.

Part of the USP Study programme entail visits to religious sites and government bodies in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul from 27 May 2008 – 15 June 2008.
