With the aim of imparting meaningful values on environmental protection to students and contribute to this endeavour, Soka Kindergarten (SK) has been active in promoting one of the principles expounded in the Earth Charter termed ”Respect for the Community of Life” to the students.
Thus when the Annual Clean and Green Week (CGW) Schools Carnival 2006 was organised, SK responded promptly by setting up an exhibition booth on the Earth Charter that was created by the K2 students.
Organised by the National Environment Agency (NEA) in partnership with the National Youth Achievement Award Council and the Singapore Environment Council, the carnival was held across two days on November 14 and 15, at the Singapore EXPO Hall 2. The event drew students and teachers from secondary, primary and pre-schools all over the island.
Coordinator for the event, Ms Tow Wei Khee from the 3P Department of NEA was full of praises for SK, commenting, ”Since last August, Soka Kindergarten has been very proactive in joining us in the workshops and events we organised. Thus when we approached them to join us for this school carnival, they readily agreed. They are the first school to respond whenever we request for support.”
On the second day, Mr Ng Meng Hiong, Deputy Director of the 3P Partnership Department of NEA, presented SK Principal Mrs Angelina Tay with a token of appreciation for SK’s contribution to the success of the carnival.
(An extension of the Education and Partnership Department of NEA, the 3P Partnership represents the People, the Public and Private Sectors.)
