SSA Day Education Activities 2006

Continuing on A Life-Long Learning Journey

Every fortnight for the last four months, 73-year-old Madam Choy Wah Yin travelled from her Choa Chu Kang home to the Telok Blangah Soka Centre with much anticipation to attend the SSA Day Education Activity (DEA). Through this interesting DEA programme, she learnt new skills and gain insights into healthcare and general knowledge, and has also made many friends.

After eight lessons, each lasting two-and-a-half-hours, Mdm Choy, together with another 113 senior citizens, had their Graduation Ceremony at Telok Blangah Soka Centre on July 13. SSA General Director Ong Bon Chai attended their jubilant graduation ceremony and presented graduation certificates to all the participants.

Assisting and caring for the DEA participants is a group of 40 dedicated volunteers. One of them, Mdm Esther Ng Gek Choo, shared, “I’m grateful for this opportunity to work with the senior citizens and very much inspired by their spirit to learn and seek new knowledge. They have been so well-disciplined and I enjoyed my time with them. Battling my own health issues at the same time, I always draw great inspirations from these senior citizens and want to do my best for them.”
