On June 5, some 1,200 SSA youths performed in the Opening Ceremony of the 28th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) Singapore 2015 at Singapore National Stadium. Through portraying more than 20 types of flora and fauna that were indigenous to Singapore, the SSA youths extended a “Big Singapore Welcome” to visiting athletes, fans and media audience watching from around the region through their depiction of Singapore as a garden city, teeming with a diverse and harmonious ecology.
In Act 4, “Sports and the City”, the SSA performers took to the stage once again to make a formation consisting of eleven interlocking rings, representing the eleven countries coming together for the SEA Games in friendship and sportsmanship. The segment was a tribute to the athletes, their coaches and families from all over Southeast Asia.
For the climactic finale to the Opening Ceremony, the SSA youths formed the outline of Singapore, which made for a beautiful backdrop for the SEA Games torch relay in the stadium, culminating in the ceremonial lighting of the SEA Games cauldron.
Since their trainings began in January 2015, the 1,200 SSA youth performers were supported by 100 trainers and 150 logistics, medical and administrative group volunteers.
