Bright and early in the morning, 20 volunteers from the Soka Volunteers Group (SVG) gathered at the Rainbow Centre (Margaret Drive School) to participate in the annual Senior Camp for students with Autism or multiple physical disabilities who are aged between 13 – 18 years old.
The volunteers took on the roles of Game Station IC for the ‘Amazing Race’ station games in the Park Connector around the school, and some of the volunteers assisted the teachers in befriending the students and accompanying them throughout the games day.In the afternoon, volunteers accompanied the students and teachers to the new housing estate opposite the school to distribute hand-made souvenirs, door-to-door, to introduce themselves and welcome their new neighbours to the community.
The SVG volunteers who participated in this activity, youngest being 20 years old and most senior being 66 years old, demonstrate to us that one is never too young nor too old to make a positive change in one’s own life, and reach out to others to create a positive change in another person’s life as well.
