General Director’s New Year Message for 2023
Excerpts of Welcome Address by SGS General Director Mr Tay Eng Kiat at the Opening Ceremony of Punggol Soka Centre Today, we are deeply honoured
Through your hard work and dedication in the last 10 months, we are greeting this glorious month of November with great victories, spreading ripples of
October 2 is the SGI World Peace Day. This day has come to symbolise the shared commitment of SGI members around the world to creating a wave of positive change in society through promoting non-violence and working for peace and the happiness of all humanity, based on the teachings of Nichiren Daishonin.
The month of August is one of great joy and celebration for Singapore. After more than 30 months of anxiety and uncertainty amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the great success of the 57th National Day Parade attracting some 25,000 people to the floating platform and the area around Marina Bay on August 9, was a hope-filled sight.
Time flies and we are already into the third quarter of this year. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to some 300 youthful participants of the National Day Parade (NDP) 2022, the committee and all who have contributed to the great success of the performance!
To cherish and empower the youth, the successors of Soka, is a tradition that started from the time of first Soka Gakkai president Tsunesaburo Makiguchi.
This year marks Soka Gakkai Singapore’s 50 years of incorporation as a legal entity carrying out the Buddha’s work, in accord with Nichiren Daishonin’s teachings and following the guidance of the Soka Gakkai (the organisation was officially registered under the Registry of Societies in January 1972).
In his January 2022 Peace Proposal titled, “Transforming Human History: The Light of Peace and Dignity”, Ikeda Sensei writes, “Mr Toda emerged from a two-year imprisonment at the hands of the Japanese militarist authorities and set about rebuilding the Soka Gakkai as a new kind of people’s movement championing humanism.
This year marks the 770th anniversary of the establishment of Nichiren Daishonin’s teaching.
