Seven SSA youth representatives were invited to participate in the People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM) Policy Forum: YOUTHSpeak on National Day Rally 2013, held at Toa Payoh SAFRA on August 30.
The “Seeds of Hope: Visions of Sustainability, Steps towards Change” – an exhibition jointly initiated by the Soka Gakkai International and the Earth Charter International and highlighting how one individual can initiate positive change in one’s community – was introduced recently to three local institutions of learning.
Brimming with the noble mission to share the philosophy of hope and courage in people’s hearts, SSA’s Student Division (SD) members studying at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) came together to spread the message that “one individual can make a difference to one’s community” with the “Seeds of Hope: Visions of Sustainability, Steps towards Change” exhibition at ITE College East (Simei Campus) on January 29.
The “Seeds of Hope: Visions of Sustainability, Steps towards Change” Exhibition was displayed at the Republic Polytechnic (RP) from December 10 to 12.
At the signing ceremony held during the Eighth SSA Student Peace Lecture on December 8 at the Singapore Management University (SMU), SSA Chairman, Mr Oh Kheng Yam, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SMU’s Dean of Students, Professor Ong Siow Heng, with SSA making an endowed gift to SMU to establish the SSA-Ikeda Peace Award in perpetuity at SMU.
The eighth Student Peace Lecture (SPL), titled “The Boons and Banes of Social Media: Can social media harness the goodness in us?”, was held on December 8 at the Mochtar Riady Auditorium of the Singapore Management University.

On December 12, members and friends of SSA Student Division (SD) filled the Mochtar Riady Auditorium at the Singapore Management University for the Seventh Student Peace Lecture (SPL). This year’s lecture, themed “Fiction, Imagination and the Surprises They Bring”, was delivered with refreshing passion and humour by distinguished writer and the first recipient of the Singapore Literature Prize in 1992, Ms Suchen Christine Lim. Ms Helen Choo, Principal of Tampines Junior College and long-time friend of Ms Lim, chaired the lecture.
