On January 12, more than 50 members from the Soka Volunteers Group (SVG) joined 30 friends from SPD (formerly known as the Society for the Physically Disabled) to tour the bustling streets of Chinatown, immersing themselves in the festive Lunar New Year atmosphere.
The Second Annual Ikeda Peace and Harmony Lecture was held on November 4, 2016 at the Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditorium of the Singapore Management University (SMU). The lecture, titled “RE-THINKING ASEAN: The Problems and Prospects for Regional Peace” was delivered by Dr Leticia Ramos Shahani.
90 Soka Volunteer Group (SVG) members and new friends gathered at Bayfront event space for the Orange Ribbon Run, Singapore’s only Race Against Racism.
On June 14, the bright voices of eight Future Division (FD) representatives conveyed a warm welcome to 15 secondary school students, accompanied by camp facilitators and a teacher-in-charge, who visited Senja Soka Centre as part of “Camp Ignite!”.
April coincides with the traditional Chinese period for tomb sweeping, also known as the “Qingming Festival”. On the weekend of April 2 and 3, SSA held a series of 25 memorial prayer meetings at the zone level which saw more than 4,000 SSA members and their families gather at the Headquarters, Tampines Soka Centre, Soka Youth Centre, Senja Soka Centre and Soka Culture Centre, to pray for the repose and happiness of deceased loved ones.
On March 4, President Yoshihisa Baba of Soka University and President Arnoud De Meyer of Singapore Management University signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Soka University and Singapore Management University at the inaugural Wee Kim Wee – Soka International Seminar on Global Peace & Understanding held in the Administrative Building of Singapore Management University.
A Tribute to the Lion City: The Jewel of Southeast Asia was launched in August 2015 in celebration of Singapore’s Golden Jubilee. It contains SGI President Ikeda’s writings, thoughts and interactions with Singapore, her leaders and her people over the course of his three visits to Singapore in 1988, 1995 and 2000.
On July 5, Colonel Lawrence Lim, the Chairman of the 28th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) Opening and Closing Ceremonies Executive Committee, presented SSA with a 28th SEA Games Torch in recognition and appreciation of SSA’s contributions in the 28th SEA Games Opening Ceremony.
