On 17 March, 10 SSA representatives attended the 63rd anniversary celebration of the Inter-Religious Organisation (IRO).
In continuing the efforts to strengthen the bonds amongst various faith communities and promote dialogue at the grassroots level, the Tampines West and Tampanies North IRCCs (Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circle) co-organised the IRCC Forum 2012 titled “Youth Engagement of Different Faiths” at SSA Headquarters on March 3.
On February 4th, the President of the Singapore Buddhist Lodge (SBL), Mr Lee Bock Guan and three other delegates pay a goodwill visit to the SSA Headquarters where a dialogue session between the two organisations’ representatives ensued.
Five SSA Youth representatives attended the inaugural Abdul Aleem Siddique Memorial Lecture organised by the Harmony Centre held at the Singapore Islamic Hub on 22 November. The event, graced by President of Singapore Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, aims to promote greater understanding and engagement as a means to strengthen social cohesion among all faith communities in Singapore. The annual lecture is named after one of the founding fathers of the Inter-Religious Organisation of Singapore (IRO).
In remembrance of the nearly 3,000 lives that perished in the terror attacks on the United States on 11 September 2001, some 1,000 people gathered at the Singapore Soka Association (SSA) for a simple yet significant ceremony jointly organised by SSA and Singapore-based humanitarian relief organisation Mercy Relief (MR).

On May 29 2011, 80 Future Division (FD) members and their in-charges (IC) attended the “Sunday Odyssey”, a one-day tour of the various SSA centres to explore and learn more about the significant history behind each of the various SSA centres islandwide. The journey also included a visit to the Ba’alwie Mosque where the participants were warmly received by Imam and Head, Mr Syed Hassan Ahmed Al-Attas (Habib Hassan) and his son Mr Syed Ahmed Al-Attas.
Mr Syed Hassan Ahmed Al-Attas gave an insight to the religious beliefs and practice of local Muslim community. The SSA youths toured the mosque and were shown a potpourri of exhibits on Islamic faith and culture. The mosque also treated the young
On 21 May 2011, 10 SSA representatives participated in a humanitarian seminar on “Natural Disasters & Humanity” organised by Mercy Relief (MR). The seminar was MR’s very first, with the aim of furthering their understanding of the psychology of the communities in times of disasters, thereby enhancing their relief efforts.
Mr Tarmugi shared that he continues to be impressed by SSA members’ dedication, work done for the community, and the ability to engage youths to support its good works and mission. SSA and its activities, he observed, imbues its members with a meaningful, worthwhile sense of purpose. Mr Tarmugi also encouraged SSA to continue playing an active role in engaging other faiths and generating the feeling of togetherness among the various faiths.
