Some 50 leaders of various faiths gathered to pray for peace in the Middle East at an event organised by the Inter-Religious Organisation on August 8. SSA Chairman Ong Bon Chai attended the ceremony held at the Raffles Town Club.
For the first time, some 30 Mahad Al-Nasry Kindergarten students visited Soka Kindergarten. This educational and cultural exchange took place at the premises of Soka Kindergarten on August 3.
On August 1, SSA commemorated the 39th SSA day graced by some 1,200 leaders and members representatives in attendance.
On the evenings of July 13 and 20, some 70 SSA representatives performed at the Singapore HeritageFest 2006, held at Suntec City Tropic Atrium.
On July 10, Radio Singapore International featured a broadcast on the “Gandhi, King, Ikeda: A Legacy of Building Peace” Exhibition which opened in Singapore from June 10-14 at the Singapore Management University.
The United Nations has proclaimed the period 2001-2010 as the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the World, to emphasize the need for the international community to recognize and ensure assistance for children exposed to harmful and violent situations.
On July 2, some 110 students from the Student and Future Division participated in a community event entitled the “MILK RUN” held at Zouk car park.
On June 23, some 20 SSA youths participated in the launch of the National Youth Forum (NYF) 2006 entitled, “Take the Lead, Be the Change” held at the Skate Park, Orchard Road.
On June 12, Singapore’s National Junior College and Tokyo Soka Gakuen held a friendship exchange event, a joint concert, at the compound of the Tokyo Soka High School. Together with four teachers, some 55 students from Singapore’s National Junior College (NJC) participated in this goodwill cultural exchange.
This is the core message that speaker Dr N Rahdakrishnan wanted to impress upon the 1,000 strong audience at the Women Peace Lecture (WPL) held on June 11 at the Ikeda Culture Auditorium (ICA) of SSA.
