Tokyo, Jan 26, 2018: Buddhist philosopher Daisaku Ikeda, president of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI), issued his annual peace proposal titled “Toward an Era of Human Rights: Building a People’s Movement.”
Daisaku Ikeda, president of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI) Buddhist association, issued his 35th annual peace proposal titled “The Global Solidarity of Youth: Ushering in a New Era of Hope” on January 26, 2017.
Every year, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda publishes a peace proposal which explores the interrelation between core Buddhist concepts and the diverse challenges global society faces in the effort to realize peace and human security. In addition, he has also made proposals touching on issues such as education reform, the environment, the United Nations and nuclear abolition.
On July 20, members of SGI-South Africa (SGI-SA) from Johannesburg commemorated Mandela Day 2013 with visits to the Itlhokomeleng Association for Aged and Disabled and the adjacent Sediba sa Thuto (Well of Learning) Childcare Centre in the Alexandra township.
Despite high levels of tension in official relations between the two countries, a group of 20 Soka Gakkai youth members from Japan visited China from August 8-13, hosted by the All-China Youth Federation (ACYF), continuing a tradition of exchange that began in 1979.
