Bag of Hope 2 Community Project

A Community Event that Promotes Mental Wellness

Despite the drizzle on 2 October, 300 members of SSA Regional Headquarters 6 (RHQ6) participated in the Mental Wellness Carnival held at the open field next to the Paya Lebar MRT station. This event was organised by Silver Ribbon (Singapore) to commemorate World Mental Health Day. The main activities of the event served to promote awareness of mental wellness and reduce prejudice against people with mental illness.

Launch of Senior Citizens Exercise Programme

Responding to the request for exercise classes for senior citizens, six members of the Soka Volunteers Group took lessons at the Health Promotion Board to qualify as exercise trainers. With the new skills, these volunteers started an exercise class with 28 senior participants.

Finale Celebration at NTUC Eldercare @Dakota Crescent

27 May 2011 was a memorable day for some 20 senior citizens and 10 members of the Soka Volunteers Group (SVG) coming together for the last time, after more than three months of weekly handicraft sessions. (See earlier report published in SSA Times issue 414, page 5) This last gathering saw the volunteers happily engaged themselves in the singing of sentimental Oldies in English, Mandarin and Cantonese to entertain their elderly friends. Everyone happily participated by clapping and humming along with the tunes.
