Responding promptly to news of the earthquake in Indonesia, SSA members attending the Sunday morning prayer sessions on October 4 contributed to the relief funds for the victims of the disaster that devastated Padang and surrounding areas on the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia.
At the invitation of Northlight School, SSA Young Men Division member, Brendan Solomon Banks, represented SSA to put up an exciting magic show for some 750 students during the school’s Hari Raya Puasa celebrations on September 18, 2009.
As an effort to enhance inter-racial and religious understanding, the Tampines West Community Club Management Committee, Tampines West Malay Activity Executive Committee and Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circle (IRCC) invited neighbourhood residents and organisations of various races and faiths to an interfaith event during the month of Ramadan (Muslim month of fasting).

As the stage lighting dimmed, the curtain for Chapter 9 of the National Day Parade 2009 with the theme “Come Together, Reaching Out, Reaching Up” lifted as 650 performers from SSA Women Division (WD) holding crimson lit spheres, students from Bedok North Secondary School and various musicians streamed into the Marina Bay Floating Platform.
The Seeds of Change Exhibition was set up at Yuhua Secondary School library as part of their Humanities Week activities from 3 to 7 August 2009.
SSA members support the cause to build a harmonious multi-religious society through the Orange Ribbon Pledge drive that was held as part of the month-long National Orange Ribbon Celebrations this July.
The 2nd Mahatma Gandhi-Daisaku Ikeda Peace Research Conference was held on 27 May 2009 at Shangri-la Hotel.
The Singapore Soka Association 37th Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on 24 April 2009 at the Ikeda Culture Auditorium. A total of 159 ordinary voting members attended the meeting where the Financial Statement for the year 2008 was approved and adopted.
