On March 16, 2017, a team of senior officials from the People’s Association (PA), led by Chief Executive Director (CED) Mr Desmond Tan and Group Director Mr Nah Juay Hng, graced the 3.16 Kosen-rufu Day Commemorative Meeting held at the SSA Headquarters, Ikeda Culture Auditorium.
SSA Chingay 2017 item ‘Singapore City of Dreams” received two awards at the Chingay Awards Presentation Ceremony 2017 and Appreciation Night that was held on March 14 at Wavehouse Sentosa. Guest-of-honour for the evening was Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth & Leader of the House.
When the upbeat music of the remixed song Cartoon Heroes by Aqua came in, the audience saw a contingent of 350 representatives from the SSA Future Division marched in in one of the brightest costumes of Chingay Parade 2017.
“People found it hard to believe that we were out there in the sun, distributing roses with a message of peace and friendship, without selling them anything,” shared Alvin Lay (above, right), a SSA Student Division (SD) member who was a volunteer at the Roses of Peace 2015 event on October 4.
On July 5, Colonel Lawrence Lim, the Chairman of the 28th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) Opening and Closing Ceremonies Executive Committee, presented SSA with a 28th SEA Games Torch in recognition and appreciation of SSA’s contributions in the 28th SEA Games Opening Ceremony.
On June 5, some 1,200 SSA youths performed in the Opening Ceremony of the 28th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) Singapore 2015 at Singapore National Stadium.
Such somber revelations at the 10th SSA Student Peace Lecture (SPL 10) filled attendees with resolve to stand up in their own way to change the state of poverty in the world today. Held on February 7, 2015 and themed “Poverty is for Me to Change” at the SSA Headquarters’ Ikeda Culture Auditorium, SPL 10 saw the largest turnout ever in the 10-year history of the lecture series with more than 600 in attendance.
Some 60 Soka Volunteers Group (SVG) and Student Division (SD) members worked hand-in-hand to accompany 29 clients from SPD (formerly known as Society for the Physically Disabled) for their visit to bustling streets of Chinatown to soak in the festive Lunar New Year spirit on February 5, 2015.
Over the weekend of December 20 and 21, 2014, the youth division of SSA, supported by the entire organisation, successfully held the SSA Youth Friendship for Peace Festival 2014 at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall.
