On 21 January, some 55 volunteers from the Soka Volunteer Group (SVG) brought 30 SPD members for an annual visit to the bustling streets of the Chinatown district to soak in the Lunar New Year festivities and engage with the community.
It was heartening to see the Chinatown stall vendors welcoming the SPD members along the route, with some even presenting small festive gift items such as lunar new year decorations and snacks to the SPD members.
Since 2009, the SVG has been partnering SPD on this meaningful project to bring the message of hope and joy to the less-abled.
SGI President Ikeda wrote: “As we work for the greater good, we build happiness for ourselves and others. The more we do for other people, the more the path of our own happiness will open up. In realizing this, we discover a sense of gratitude in being able to help them.”
With this heartwarming start to 2019, the members of SVG look forward to continue doing their part to contribute to the community through their sincere volunteering efforts.
