Emeritus Professor Lim Chong Yah Shares at Seventh SSA Youth Peace Lecture

SSA Youth Division organised its 7th Youth Peace Lecture on April 28 in the presence of some 400 guests and members. At the session held at the SSA Headquarters, Albert Winsemius Chair Professor of Economics and the Director of the Economic Growth Centre at the Nanyang Technological University, Prof Lim Chong Yah gave an insightful lecture on the topic “The Singapore Economy – The Right Options”.

In his lecture, Prof Lim shared on how Singapore, a young nation, was able to transform itself to its present leading status in a short span of 40 years. He also inspired the youths present to be more proactive and concerned about issues relating to peace as they will be the future protagonists who will be directly affected by this.

Among the guests present were President of Inter-Religious Organisation Mr V R Nathan, professors from local Universities, and many other academics.

[About Professor Lim Chong Yah
Prof Lim Chong Yah was the founding head of the Division of Applied Economics, University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, prior to becoming the Head of the Department of Economics and Statistics (1977-1992) and the elected Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (1971-1977) of the National University of Singapore. He is currently the Albert Winsemius Chair Professor of Economics and the Director of the Economic Growth Center at the Nanyang Technological University. For 18 years, Prof Lim was also the President of the Economic Society of Singapore and was the Editor of the Singapore Economic Review for 13 years (1978-1991).]
