The second “Harmony for Humanity” concert organized by Mercy Relief was held on September 6 at the Soka Culture Center to promote the notion of “Cultivating a Grateful and Gracious Society”. Guest-of-Honour for the concert was Mayor of Southwest District Dr Amy Khor. This event was jointly organized by Mercy Relief, SSA, South West Community Development Council and Hyperbaric & Occupational Medicine (HOM) Pte Ltd.
In her speech, Dr Amy Khor shared that the event “is a reminder for all of us that this effort needs to be continued, and indeed re-doubled. It is also timely as Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in his recent National Day Rally highlighted that it is imperative for Singaporeans to cultivate a gracious society.” She also expressed her wish that “many more Singaporeans are adjusting their habits to become more conscientious in their daily interactions with fellow citizens”.
This concert is part of a series of initiatives aimed at promoting international volunteerism and to encourage Singaporeans to be active and effective members of the global village. At the same time, it also aims to promote graciousness amongst Singaporeans. The concert features capella Singaporean band “Budak Pantai” and the energetic and lively UrbanKidz from Kuo Po’s Precious Entertainment. In addition to the culture performances, there was also a photo exhibition depicting Singaporeans serving in Mercy Relief’s overseas humanitarian operations. In conjunction with the campaign, the organizers also put together a 12-page booklet that provided handy information on how Singaporeans can be encouraged to look beyond their own needs and comfort, and to engage in promoting acts of graciousness within the community. As part of the continuing campaign to promote the message of gratitude and graciousness to an even wider audience, Mercy Relief will be organizing an open air concert next to Tampines Mall on 16 November and another concert at Vivocity on 13 December.
