On August 21, 2008, the inaugural Mahatma Gandhi-Daisaku Ikeda Peace Research Conference was held at Hotel Parkroyal. Chairman of East Asian Institute Professor Wang Gungwu delivered the welcome remarks. The Conference saw sessions centered upon eminent speakers exploring topics relating to the theme “The Rise of China and India: Towards a Harmonious Region?”
This conference was organized by the East Asian Institute, Singapore and sponsored by Lam Kin-chung Morning Sun Charity Fund and Dr Ho Hau Wong. Professor Koide Minoru, Director for International Affairs and Relations of Soka University of Japan, was also amongst the speakers. He presented a paper on “A Japanese Perspective on the Rise of China and India: Opportunities, Concerns, and Potential Threats”.
