Over the past 14 years since its establishment, Soka Kindergarten (SK) has gained the recognition of the Ministry of Education as a model kindergarten that provides outstanding preschool education. Through the MOE’s recommendation, the school has received official and governmental level visits from countries such as the People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Mongolia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines. It also hosted delegates from the IMF Congress. It is now a Centre of Learning for local preschool educators and leaders.
Graduates of the school are growing well, and displaying their unique potential to the fullest. Besides its promising students, recently SK Chinese teacher Ms Tan Kwee Sin emerged one of the two winners, out of 40 nominees, for the Outstanding Kindergarten Teacher Award (Distinction).
Ms Tan was presented the honor by Ministry of Education’s Deputy Director of Pre-school and Special Education Branch, Mrs Woo-Mah Yoke Yoong, on November 21 at the MOE Kindergarten Briefing cum Sharing Session held at the St Andrew’s Secondary School.
“I am greatly honored for this recognition. I am grateful to SK for providing me this platform to achieve this excellence. Being a member of SSA and an educator, I firmly believe that the “value creation” education, developed by the founding president of Soka Gakkai Mr Makiguchi, is the light of the new century. Mr Makiguchi asserted that the purpose of education must be the lifelong happiness of the learners – that the happiness of the learner and the peace and prosperity of society are deeply connected.”
At the same event, two other SK teachers, Ms Jeannie Ng and Ms Sim Ker Ling who are doing their Bachelor of Arts in Families and Children Education, represented the school to present their research papers to the audience of some 700 educators from various kindergartens in Singapore.
