In support of the Silver Ribbon (Singapore) in promoting the awareness of mental health among the general public, SSA co-organized the World Mental Day 2008. Held at Hougang Mall on October 4, Guest of Honour for this event was Mr Teo Chee Hean, Minister for Defence. Some 90 Men and Women Division members from the Soka Volunteer Group (SVG) helped in distributing goodie bags to the large crowd of participants.
Six SVG representatives also participated in the World Hospice Day 2008 on behalf of SSA by attending a talk on hospice care at Dover Park Hospice on October 11, followed by the sharing of their experience as volunteers in this area.
35 Women Division members learnt about osteoporosis by attending an educational seminar on bone health and osteoporosis at the Health Promotion Board in commemoration of World Osteoporosis Day 2008 on October 18. The event included a bone density scan and professional advice on proper nutrition.
