SSA Joins Leaders of Various Faiths in Making Declaration for Peace in the Middle East

Some 50 leaders of various faiths gathered to pray for peace in the Middle East at an event organised by the Inter-Religious Organisation on August 8. SSA Chairman Ong Bon Chai attended the ceremony held at the Raffles Town Club.

The gathering saw representatives from various religious faiths, voluntary welfare groups and the non-governmental Inter-Religious Organisation, coming together to observe a minute’s silence and issue a joint statement calling for peace.

Part of the call of peace reads, “We appeal to all those involved in the conflicts to exercise self-restraint so as to prevent any injury and more loss of lives and to allow humanitarian aid to be given to those who are in dire need.”

The statement also indicated the leaders’ urge to all those concerned to resolve their differences as soon as possible through negotiations and other peaceful means in order to avoid further loss of lives and destruction of property.

“We pray for the well being of the victims and their families, regardless of their race or religious beliefs and for a true, just and lasting peace.” the statement concluded.
