Instead of disposing of their old clothings and newspapers, SSA members brought them to Soka Culture Centre on January 4 in support of the “Charitable Recycling @ South West” organised by the South West Community Development Council (CDC). Some 80 SSA members helped in the collection, sorting and packing of clothings and papers.
The event saw SSA partnering City Harvest Church, the South West Mosque Cluster and two corporate partners – Sembcorp Tay Paper Pte Ltd and Koh Kock Leong Pte Ltd, together with the support from National Environment Agency to collect recyclables in raising funds for the South West CDC ITE Educational Expenses (E²) Fund.
The 16,700 kg of old clothes and 45,500 kg of used paper collected raised a total of $60,000. Dr Amy Khor, Mayor of South West District, later presented the cheque of $60,000 to ITE College West in the presence of representatives from the various partners.
