Some SSA representatives participated in interfaith dialogues and seminars held over the months of February and March.
On February 3, SSA representative Tan Li Ping, participated in a panel discussion titled “Ethnicity, Cultural and Religious Divides: Views, Prejudices and Experiences”, organsied by the Mendaki Club.
A 15-minute presentation introducing the philosophy of Nichiren Buddhism and SSA, was shared at the panel, alongside presentations from Perdaus and Young Sikh Association respectively. The session was attended by some 30 secondary school Malay students from the Mendaki Club. Through the panel sharing, the audience gained a deeper insight into the various religions in Singapore, thus allowing them to better appreciate the various social and religious perspectives.
At another seminar organised by the Association of Muslim Professional (AMP), SSA representative Chan Kah Keat attended the annual “Community in Review” seminar.
At the event, eminent speakers such as Mr Yeoh Lam Keong, Vice President of Economic Society of Singapore; Dr Alexius Pereira, Assistant Professor from NUS Sociology Department, and Dr Ameen Talib, AMP Director, spoke on social issues concerning the Singapore society, in particular on the Malay community.
