On October 21, SSA Chairman Michael Yap represented SSA youth division in the People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM)-Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Ceremony at Our Tampines Hub. SSA youth division was among nine new youth partners to go on board the PAYM-Partnership MOU. Through the MOU, SSA youth division will have opportunities to expand friendship with Youth Executive Committees (YECs) in PAYM and other youth partners.On the same day and at the same venue, a group of 15 Student Division (SD) leaders and members represented SSA youth division to participate in the YECs Networking Session organised by the PAYM. The inaugural networking session brought together representatives from 102 YECs and 42 youth network partners. The event seeks to empower youth to bring about positive changes in the local communities.Thereafter, Minister Chan Chun Sing, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, had a dialogue session with the youth present. Minister Chan urged the youth to take action to solve the issues that the society is facing, regardless of the magnitude of the action, emphasising that what matters most is the magnitude of one’s heart behind those actions.
The event concluded with a befitting performance by Very Special Arts Singapore Cajon Boys. Youth from Friends of PAYM including the SSA Young Men Division (YMD) Courageous Musicians (Brass Band) and Young Women Division (YWD) Fife and Drum Corps (Kotekitai) joined them on stage later too. The sight of the youthful performers dancing alongside one another, each beaming with hope and happiness, pointed to a promising future that can be shaped by the power of youth.PAYM-SSA Youth MOU Signing Session
On October 8, the signing of the MOU between SSA youth division and PAYM was held at the Chamber of The Arts House.
Some 200 representatives from the Arts and Culture and function groups of the youth division were present to witness the signing of the MOU, which signified official collaboration between the two organisations to nurture and empower youth for the future and the betterment of society. PAYM Director Toh Lay Hoon and SSA Chairman Michael Yap represented the respective organisations in the signing ceremony.(For full report please refer to SSA Times Issue 569)
