“Thank you very much for extending your help in this goodie bags packing. I see a few familiar faces. Singapore Soka Association (SSA) has been a fervent supporter of our annual mental wellness events, organised by the Silver Ribbon Singapore. I remembered there was one year when you helped us packed 10,000 goodie bags over a span of four days at your Soka Youth Centre, but today we need only pack 1,000 and I know you are very efficient at that!” Ms Porsche Poh (符秀珍), regional Vice President (Asia Pacific), World Federation for Mental Health shared these heartfelt words with the 30 Soka Volunteer Group (SVG) members on September 28 at the Geylang Serai Community Club.
October 10 is World Mental Health Day and on October 6, 2013 a Community Mental Wellness Carnival was held at the Geylang Serai Community Club where the packed goodie bags were distributed to the residents who attended the event. On that occasion, Dr Kenneth Low, SVG Chairperson, received the Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of SSA, from the guest-of-honour for the event, Grassroots Adviser and Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC Professor Fatimah Lateef.
