For the fourth year running, SSA partnered Esplanade—Theatres on the Bay and the Urban Redevelopment Authority for the annual Marina Bay Singapore Countdown Wishing Sphere Project. A total of more than 100 Soka Volunteers Group (SVG) members took part in this project through a series of activities in December to reach out to members of the public, Volunteer Welfare Organisations (VWO) and members of SSA.
To kick-start the string of events, 25 volunteers visited the Bukit Batok Home for the Aged on 10 December 2010 and engaged residents to pen their wishes for the New Year. Another group of 50 volunteers took to the streets along Singapore’s ever-crowded shopping strip—Orchard Road—on December 11 to engage members of the public in penning their wishes. That same weekend also saw 40 volunteers at various Soka centres cheerfully engaging SSA members and friends as well as the Primary Division members for this same purpose.
To end this significant project, 20 volunteers assisted clients from the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) in penning their wishes on December 16. The penned wishes varied from messages for world peace to good health and happiness of all humankind, and they carried the great expectation for Year 2011 to be one showered with much goodwill, hopes and happiness!
