Some 50 children and adults turned up for the screening of the “Treasures of the Desert” story held at the Queenstown Regional Library on November 21. A story-telling session by SSA Educator Lim Tiew Ling followed thereafter where children shared on what they have learnt from the session.
This screening of the children’s animations are from a series of stories written by Soka Gakkai International President Mr Daisaku Ikeda. He writes on topics related to peace, education and the human condition and is also a prolific poet. He has written 23 children’s books, which have been published in 17 languages. The stories promote universal values such as the preciousness of life and the importance of compassion and courage. Many of them have been made into animated films and broadcast by national television stations.
This screening ties in with the Asian Children’s Festival organized by the National Library Board since December 2000. This year, the SSA Junior Choir was also invited to perform a medley of songs at the opening ceremony of the ACF which kicks off a series of events for children from 20-26 November this year.
