A total of 110 performers from the Golden Lion Dance Troupe, Sunflower Dance Ensemble, Soka Chorus and Soka Junior Choir brought cheer and the festive spirit of the Lunar New Year through a heartwarming concert to some 100 patients and visitors at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) on February 27, 2015—the ninth day of the Lunar New Year. For about an hour, the performers presented a Lion dance, Wushu performances, medleys of songs and a Chinese cultural dance, much to the delight of the audience gathered for the evening at the hospital’s amphitheatre. Some patients who could not come down to the ground floor were also spotted enjoying the performances from the windows of their respective wards.
Earlier in the evening, some 30 Soka Volunteers Group (SVG) members visited the wards to inform and invite patients for the concert. They also facilitated the patients’ movement to and fro their wards and the performing venue. At the end of the concert, the SVG members expressed their well wishes for the New Year and the patients’ smooth recovery as they distributed a Lunar New Year gift bag each to the patients in attendance.
Mdm Mumtaj Ibrahim, Manager of Community Relations at the SGH, shared: “The concert put up by the performers was colourful and entertaining. The patients and visitors felt the Chinese New Year mood and we thank SSA for bringing the festivities to SGH.” This was the very first community base engagement programme undertaken with SGH by SGS’s Arts & Culture Groups.
