Senior Minister of State Opens Fifth “Voices of Spring”

Some 150 guests and SSA members were present at the launch of the Voices of Spring (VOS) 2009 – a Chinese New Year Song Singing Festival, held at The Arts House on January 9. The Guest of Honour was RADM (NS) Lui Tuck Yew, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Education, and Information, Communications and the Arts.

Into her fifth year running, SSA co-organised VOS 2009 with the Singapore Choral Society Association. This year’s event is supported by Hong Leong Foundation, The Arts Fund, The Arts House, The Chinese Language and Culture Fund, and Esplanade Theatres by the Bay.

Over the past years, some 30,000 people and 35 choirs have participated in VOS. This year, there was a total of 10 Choirs participating in performances in three venues over six days. Besides the four SSA Choirs, the other participating choirs were Metro Philharmonic Choir, Kang Fu Choir, Ying Fo Hakka Choir, SPH Chinese Choir, Sing Sheng Philharmonic Choir and Taman Jurong Community Club Senior Citizen Executive Committee Choir.
