On February 6, performers from five SSA Arts and Culture Groups brought the festive cheer of Lunar New Year through a heartwarming outdoor mini-concert at Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
More than 120 patients and visitors gathered at the hospital’s amphitheater for this event, which consisted of an hour-long instrumental, song and dance performance by the Golden Lion Dance Troupe, Rainbow Chinese Orchestra, Soka Junior Choir, Soka Youth Dance Crew, and the Women Division Tulip Choir. There were even patients enjoying the performances from the corridors and windows of their respective wards! Earlier in the evening, Soka Volunteers Group (SVG) members visited the wards to inform and invite patients for the concert and facilitated the patients’ movement to enjoy the outdoor concert.
The performance began with the Golden Lion Dance Troupe presenting a graceful yet powerful lion dance, accompanied by rhythmic beats of drums and cymbals. This was followed by the clear and bright voices of the Soka Junior Choir. The Rainbow Chinese Orchestra followed up with their skillful playing of melodious and harmonic tunes.A choral rendition of festive songs and popular tunes by the Women Division Choir came next. Concluding the mini-concert was a multi-cultural dance infused with a hip-hop twist by the Soka Youth Dance Crew, much to the delight of the audience.
In conclusion to the high-spirited concert, the SSA performers expressed their well wishes to the patients for the New Year and the patients’ smooth recovery and presented them with a small handmade gift. This is the third community engagement activity by SGS’s Arts and Culture Groups in partnership with SGH.
