On February 27 and 28, 2015, the lanes of the Singapore F1 Pit Building were filled not with race cars, but with 11,000 vibrant multi-cultural dancers of the Chingay Parade 2015–the largest street performance and float parade in Asia.
Members of Singapore Soka Association (SSA) performed in the parade for the 33rd time since 1981. Representing SSA were 250 performers from the Men Division and Women Division of Regional Headquarters 4 who presented their item titled “Flow of Memories”. Their performance depicted contributive citizens from all walks of life joyfully contributing to the progress and prosperity of their beloved country. Among them were 50 performers who danced and moved around inside huge transparent balls, representing 50 years of Singapore’s birth.
Themed “We love SG”, this 43rd Chingay Parade this year is part of “SG50”, a year-long series of celebrations to mark Singapore’s 50th year of independence, and is also the most “youthful”, with about half of the 15,000 volunteers and performers aged 35 and below. There were also 1,000 performers from overseas including Japan, China, Russia, and even from as far away as Rwanda and Turkey, making it a celebration of peace and human harmony that transcends national boundaries.
Attending the parade as the guest-of-honour on February 27 was Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean while Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam graced the parade on February 28 as the guest-of-honour. They joined some 48,000 enthusiastic members of the audience to enjoy the colourful performances. Broadcast online and on television to 26 countries, the parade had an estimated additional reach of 35 million viewers.
