SSA’s 40th Anniversary cum Youth Festival Celebration

SSA celebrates her 40th years of founding since 1967 through the form of a Youth Festival held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on July 7. Performances that evening included a string of cultural performances from the various SSA culture groups.

Among the 10,000 audience present at the SGS’s celebration were some 75 guests, including Member of Parliament Dr Fatimah Lateef, members from the Inter-Religious Organization, members from the humanitarian organization of Mercy Relief, and various leaders from the grassroots organizations.

At the event, commendations from the People’s Association (PA) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) were presented to SSA for the years of participation in the National Day and Chingay Parades since 1981.

Mr Tan Boon Huat, Chief Executive Director of PA, praises SSA for “contributing significantly to PA’s mission of strengthening community bonds and promoting racial harmony.”

In a message from Mr Lim Boon Heng, Minister of Prime Minister’s Office, which was read out at the event, Minister Lim commended and congratulated SSA for contributing significantly to the Chingay Parade over the years.

In the commendation from SAF, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant General Desmond Kuek writes, “Over the years since 1981, SSA has worked closely with the Singapore Armed Forces in each of the National Day Parade celebrations. Your tremendous sense of public spiritedness and outstanding support for the National Day Parade is greatly appreciated. The SSA performances never fail to bring to the nation an exciting show of creativity and well-choreographed discipline year after year.”

At the event, SSA presented 11 Goodwill Awards to friends of SSA for supporting SGS’s endeavours in peace, culture and education over the years. Amongst the recipients were Member of Parliament Dr Fatimah Lateef, members from Mercy Relief, the Inter-Religious Organisation, the Singapore Red Cross and the Photographic Society of Singapore.
