On February 20, 15 SGS’s Merdeka Generation members represented SSA in the first ever digital Chingay Parade.
The annual parade, carrying the theme “Light of Hope”, was attended by 150 guests with Guest of Honour being Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong. It was held at the Theatre at MediaCorp and aired on television and various online platforms. This year marks SGS’s 37th year of participation in Chingay.
Together with three other organisations, SSA representatives put up a performance that celebrates Singapore’s hawker culture, along with a local song composition titled “Hawker Culture Jingle”. The performers danced to the jingle with cooking utensils as their props as they celebrate UNESCO’s recent addition of Singapore’s hawker culture to its list of intangible cultural heritage.
On 25 March, SSA Management Committee member Mr Lee Cheng Wee represented SSA at the Chingay 2021 Certificate Presentation Ceremony to receive the Certificate of Participation from Minister Chan Chun Sing, Deputy Chairman of People’s Association.
