Sunflower Dance Ensemble Brings “Blooms of Joy” to the Istana

Amidst the festivities of the Lunar New Year, the Singapore Soka Association’s Sunflower Dance Ensemble was honoured to be invited to the Istana to present a Chinese Dance performance, titled “Blooms of Joy”, on February 20, 2015 for the Istana Open House on the second day of the Lunar New Year.

The 23 young women from the dance ensemble joyously and gracefully put up the 4-minute cultural item at the Istana Lawn in the presence of the Republic’s President Tony Tan Keng Yam and First Lady Mary Tan, along with members of the public who came for the Open House that afternoon.

Since the Singapore Soka Association’s Sunflower Dance Ensemble was established in 1983, the group, comprising members of the Young Women Division with a passion for dance, has been actively participating in many cultural performances, such as the National Day Parade, public concerts and the Chinatown light-up ceremony. This was the group’s first performance at the Istana’s Open House and the Singapore Soka Association’s third participation in the event.
