SGI President Ikeda’s Poems

On November 18, the 39th Soka Gakkai Headquarters Leaders Meeting of the New Era of Worldwide Kosen-rufu and the SGI General Meeting—commemorating the 5th anniversary of the Hall of the Great Vow for Kosen-rufu and the 88th Soka Gakkai Foundation Day—were held at the newly renovated Toda Memorial Auditorium in Sugamo, Tokyo. The gathering was also attended by 300 SGI representatives from 70 countries and territories.

To celebrate the occasion, SGI President Ikeda sent a short message, which was read by SGI Vice President Hiromasa Ikeda: “I have joined with all of you in watching today’s meeting. How happy President Makiguchi and President Toda would surely have been to see this gathering! Thank you all very much! Praying that you will enjoy ever greater good fortune and victories, I would like to present you with three poems as an expression of my appreciation and congratulations.” The three poems appear below.

Mountain of Soka,
towering majestically,
unshaken by any storm—
a champion of philosophy
admired around the world!

*

Let us set sail for the ocean
of peace and harmony,
transcending division,
linking together all the precious
gemlike lives of humanity.

*

May the morning sun of successors—
Bodhisattvas of the Earth—
rise victorious,
spreading the triumphant light
of human revolution!

SGI President Ikeda also composed the following poem to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Hall of the Great Vow for Kosen-rufu:

May a palace of happiness
flourish and shine,
and victory cheers resound eternally,
in the lives of my treasured friends
who embrace a noble vow!
