Singapore Management University’s (SMU) Wee Kim Wee Centre, with the support of SSA, instituted the Annual Ikeda Lecture for Peace and Harmony lecture series by holding the inaugural lecture on November 6, 2015 at the SMU Mochtar Riady Auditorium.
Named in honour of SGI President Daisaku Ikeda, this five-year annual lecture series seeks to put in action President Ikeda’s untiring conviction that dialogue is the surest path to peace. The lecture series will address and discuss ways in threat and difficulty can be transformed into cooperation and growth.
Attended by more than 320 people, the speaker for this inaugural lecture was His Excellency Professor Dr Surakiart Sathirathai, the Former Deputy Prime Minister and Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. Dr Surakiart spoke on the topic “The Continuing Challenge to Peace”.
The Welcome Address was delivered by Professor Arnoud De Meyer, the President of SMU, while the Introduction and Opening Remarks were given by Mr Ho Kwon Ping, Chairman of SMU Board of Trustees. Professor Lily Kong, the Provost of SMU, moderated the question and answer session with Dr Surakiart after the lecture.
