On 24 November 2018, SSA was invited to speak at the inaugural Tampines GRC Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circle (IRCC) event held at the Tampines Primary School. SSA Central Committee member Mr Chua Hai Lee delivered a talk on the topic “Trust through Friendship, Peace through Trust – Fostering Interracial Relations Reduces Prejudices” to an audience of over 30 interfaith community leaders from the various IRCCs across the Tampines GRC.
This get-together is the first of its kind at the GRC-level to foster stronger relations across members of the IRCCs in Tampines through having regular interactions and free conversations.
In this talk, Mr Chua highlighted the issue of ‘implicit bias’ which is the unconscious attribute of particular qualities to a member of a certain social group, and its possible consequences in a multi-racial and multi-ethnic setting. Mr Chua further reiterated the importance of dialogue premised on building friendship, as the way forward to bridge differences and foster trust.
