On January 23, SSA Chairman Mr Michael Yap delivered a speech on the Buddhist perspective on peace at an interfaith seminar organised by Jamiyah Singapore at Tampines East Community Club. The half-day seminar, which included a lively question-and-answer session, aims to strengthen the unity among people of different faith.
Guest-of-Honour Mr Desmond Choo, Member of Parliament for Tampines GRC, attended the seminar together with some 200 guests, where religious leaders from different faiths – including Islam, Christianity and Hinduism – shared their reflections on the theme of “Religion and Peace”.In his speech, Mr Yap shared that through actualising their own positive personal transformation, or human revolution, SSA members aspire to be good citizens who actively contribute to the well-being and happiness of those around them. This is based on the recognition that being good citizens is inseparable from carrying out one’s Buddhist faith. Mr Yap shared, “Only when there are peace and security in the country, can there be peace and security for family and individuals. So being exemplary citizens is our way of Buddhist faith to return our deep gratitude to the people, and the country, without which we would not be what we are today.”
