Representatives from the SGI Office of Peace and Global Issues attended the First Committee on Disarmament and International Security

New York, USA: On October 16, during the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly First Committee on Disarmament and International Security, representatives from the SGI Office of Peace and Global Issues attended a side event “To Safeguard Future Generations—Multi-Faith Responses to the Threat of Nuclear Weapons.” The group Faith Communities Concerned about Nuclear Weapons, which SGI belongs to, issued a joint statement on the issue of disarmament, including abolition of nuclear weapons and the prohibition of Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems (LAWS). On October 17, together with the interfaith statement, SGI submitted its own official statement to Marissa Edwards, Vice-Chair of the First Committee.
