About 300 children from Soka Kindergarten raised $1,535 to help their friends in Japan through a fun fair held at school.
In their daily newspaper sharing, the children spoke about the disasters that hit Japan and how they wanted to help the children and people of Japan. Through discussions, the idea of the SK Kindness Day was born.
The children from each K2 class decided to organise a fun fair and put up posters to ‘advertise’ their stalls. They also cut out pictures of the earthquake, tsunami and the determined faces of the Japanese and pasted them on a huge coloured paper to make a poster. On May 2 two student representatives presented the cheque donation to Chairman of Mercy Relief (MR), Mr T K Udairam at the SSA Headquarters.
After receiving the cheque from the children MR Chairman T K Udairam, said, “This gracious act of the kids augurs well not only for the SSA, but also Singapore as a nation. For that, we have every reason to be optimistic of our future generation.”
