Day Education and Activity Programme for Senior Citizens (DEA) Outing at Police Cantonment Complex

Some 150 DEA participants paid a meaningful visit to the Headquarters of Singapore Police Force at Cantonment Road. The visit was intended to raise awareness of what the police can do for senior citizens. In general, senior citizens find it troublesome to report matters to the police, resulting in many unreported police cases. The visit included a talk on crime prevention, a visit to the report room, as well as viewing some of the latest police equipment.

Mdm Ng Kwee Kee, one of the DEA participants who visited the police station shared, “This is really a good activity! It has changed my perspective towards policemen. Now we senior citizens no longer have fear in going to report to the police, but rather as what the police officer encouraged us ‘to treat here like your second home, feel free to come to us’. Other than that I have also learnt the ways to prevent crime. I could then share such information with my neighbour senior citizens such that we could help each other to raise awareness. In this way, I believe it will help to prevent crime from happening.”
