The inaugural SGS’s Community Mental Health Symposium held at SSA HQ on 25 September 2010 roused the interest of some 400 participants. The symposium presented a series of talks and workshops that discussed in depth on topics such as women’s mental resiliency in handling life’s challenges, suicide awareness in the community and the role of faith in mental health.
The Guest-of-Honour of the symposium was Mr Hawazi Daipi, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Health. He was heartened to learn that SSA has join hands with leaders and organisations in the community to promote public understanding on importance of mental well-being, the various forms of mental illnesses and the services and avenues of help available.
The symposium was organised by SSA with two partnering organisations – Silver Ribbon (Singapore) and World Federation for Mental Health. The symposium was supported by the Health Promotion Board and included the following participating organisations – Asian Women’s Welfare Association, Institute of Mental Health, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, SAGE Counselling Centre, Singapore Association for Mental Health, Simei Care Centre, Samaritans of Singapore, Tampines Family Service Centre and Allswell Trading Pte Ltd.
