On 30 June, the SSA Student Division (SD) held the third Youth for Peace Symposium (YFP) at the SSA Headquarters with some 500 attendees consisting of SD members, friends and guests from interfaith organisations.
The theme of the symposium was “Toward a New Era of Peace and Disarmament: A People-centered Approach”, the central theme of Soka Gakkai International (SGI) President Daisaku Ikeda’s 2019 Peace Proposal. Organised annually by the SSA SD since 2017, the YFPS is held in response to SGI President Daisaku Ikeda’s lifelong pursuits for the peace and happiness of all humanity, with a particular focus on his annual Peace Proposal submitted to the United Nations since 1983.
Besides the in-depth panel discussion on the Peace Proposal, other highlights of the Symposium included the SGI exhibition “Everything You Treasure – For a World Free From Nuclear Weapons”, and a cultural performance of the song “Ode to Joy” by the SSA tertiary students.
