Five SSA Youth representatives participated in the 5th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth (AMMY V) hosted by Singapore from April 23 to 27. Playing different roles from organising, facilitating discussions, to the role of liaison officers to the ASEAN ministers and senior officials, SSA youths had the opportunity to engage with various local and regional youth leaders.
Jointly organised by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the National Youth Council (NYC), the theme for AMMY V was “Youth: Creating Our Future Together”, reflecting the call for youths to take initiative in doing something for themselves and the societies.
A parallel event of AMMY V was an eight-day Youth Caucus programme that involved youths from the 10 ASEAN countries. It comprised of talks by distinguished speakers, group discussions on topics such as Education, Environmental concerns, Entrepreneurship, and Community Engagement, in ASEAN countries. Presentations of recommendations to ASEAN Ministers and senior officials were delivered by the ASEAN youth representatives.
Minister for Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, presented a token of appreciation to SSA for SSA’s participation at a Thank-You reception held on May 28.
