SSA was recently invited by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to participate in a meaningful collaboration of a Virtual Choir performing to the famous Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony ‘Ode to Joy’.
SSA participates in NDP 2020 through our virtual performance entitled “United as One, Emerging Stronger Together”. The video was featured on the NDP 2020 official social media platform as part of contribution to “Our Heart for Singapore”.
The youthful SSA Fife-and-Drum Corps (Kotekitai) initiated a stay-home baton dance to the newly launched World Youth Division song, “Step Forward”, in the hope to spread joy to all.
Along with the NDP feature in The Sunday Times today, one of SSA’s long time NDP participant, Ms Lee Toh Ling, was interviewed as a representative of SSA.
The Soka Gakkai Youth Division launched its first online collaborative project, UTATSUKU (Make a Song), calling all youth and friends from across the world to join in the process of making a shared song towards May 3.
After close to 3 months of hard work, 100 of our Future Division members and another 100 Merdeka Generation members wow-ed the audience at the annual Chingay Parade held at the F1 Pit over 31 January and 1 February. This year marks SGS’s 36th year of participation in the Chingay Parade, an annual international street parade held during the Lunar New Year period. This year, SSA participated in two performing items – the Opening Segment where 100 (Secondary 1) Future Division members entered with the Guest-of-Honour (Prime Minister and President for both days respectively); and “Bridge of Harmony” where 100 Merdeka Generation (Singaporeans born between 1950–1959) leaders performed in a travelling dance item. Well done all SSA performers!

Preparations for National Day Parade (NDP) 2020 has kickstarted!
On 30 January, NDP2020 Exco Chairman BG Frederick Choo and Show Chairman COL Wong Shi Ming led the NDP2020 Organising Committee team to call on General Director Tay Eng Kiat at the SSA Headquarters.
This year’s NDP celebrates the nation’s 55th year of independence and marks SGS’s 35th year of participation in the annual national celebration. Look out for the recruitment details coming up very soon!
On 26 January 2020, SGS’s Angels of Peace – the Fife and Drums Corps – performed to visiting members of the public who came forth for the Istana Lunar New Year Open House to soak in the festivities. Under bright clear skies, the young women performed to the cheery piece entitled, “Big Fun in the Sun”. President Halimah Yacob and her husband came by to express their appreciation and took a commemorative photo with the Kotekitai girls following their performance.
While many may be slowing down our footsteps this holiday season, 100 Future Division members and another 100 Merdeka Generation members have been training hard for Chingay 2020 happening early February! Our kudos to all these wonderful members and those working behind the scenes for their great efforts!
