On behalf of SSA, Young Men Division Leader Leonard Koh received a commendation of appreciation from the Lunar New Year 2009 Lightup Chinatown Organizing Committee at the event held at Chinatown on January 3.
In May 2008, the Singapore Soka Association (SSA) partnered humanitarian organization Mercy Relief to raise funds in the aftermath of tragic China Sichuan earthquake. Members and friends of SSA helped raised a total of S$147,961.13.
A delegation of 23 Chinese officials from Longgang district, Shenzhen, who are presently on a two week study tour, visited the SSA Headquarters on December 17.
Some 1600 SSA members partook in the SSA Entrance Study Examinations held at SPRING Singapore on December 14. The examinations took place over four sessions starting from morning 9am till 6pm.
On December 13, SSA was commended for the support in partnering Mercy Relief through the campaign “Cultivating a Grateful and Gracious Society” (CGGS).

On November 30, some 1,100 people attended a talk centering on the theme, “Dawn After the Dark – What if I have Mental Illness?” This talk is a peace initiative by SSA Women and Young Women Divisions, co-organized with Silver Ribbon (Singapore)
From November 28 to December 1, an exhibition showcasing new and award winning clay sculptures by China’s Henan province master sculptor Zhao Enmin and outstanding apprentice sculptors, was on display at the SSA Headquarters.
From November 24 to 28, the exhibition “From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit” produced by the Soka Gakkai International, opens at the atrium of Singapore Institute of Management University.
On November 18, humanitarian organization Mercy Relief presented a commendation to SGI President Daisaku Ikeda for his inspirational leadership. SSA Chairman Ong Bon Chai received the commendation from Mr T K Udairam, Chairman of Mercy Relief, at a meeting held in the presence of some 2,000 SSA members and guests at the SSA Headquarters.
